Redhook’s Memorial Beer: Ben’s Brew

Redhook’s memorial beer, called “Ben’s Brew” will honor Ben Harris, who was killed in a massively freak accident.

This is a tragic story about Ben Harris, who was killed earlier this year in April at the Redhook brewery while he was cleaning a plastic air keg.  The keg blew apart at the seems and caused fatal injuries.  Ben was  just married and they were expecting their first kid.

As far as we know, this is the only fatal incident involving a keg, (metal or plastic) that has occurred in modern brewing times.

Hat’s off to Redhook for making the effort to help the family with their Redhook Memorial Beer, Ben’s Brew.

A fund has been set up for Ben’s baby:

The Alysha Miller Harris Baby Fund c/o TD Bank, 20 International Drive, Portsmouth, NH, 03801, (603) 430-3812.

Several breweries have contributed to the fund, including (but not limited to):

  • Highland Brewing Company, in Asheville, N.C
  • Milly’s Tavern in Manchester, N.H
  • Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House in Dallas, TX
  • Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Fla
  • The Bruery, located in Placentia, Calif.,

This is just an awful tragedy, and nothing can replace a loved one.  Redhook’s memorial beer, Ben’s Brew might be able to ease the pain of their family’s loss.
